I'm ok

Photografer: Jenni Haili

In my piece ’I’m ok’ I realise the motive of one photograph with a variety of techniques and hence explore the theme of repetition: the significance of the original to its reproductions and the way various techniques transform an image into a more abstract manifestation. One aim of this series is to show the hard work required in an artistic process, as it tends to stay hidden behind the apparent easiness of the artwork.

The original photograph presents a woman - who sometimes becomes interpreted as a man dressed as a woman - in a traditional portrait. The woman wears a pearl necklace tightened so fast, that her face has become red. Despite of the agony she smiles:”I’m ok”.

The image has been realized with following techniques: cross stitch, rug, serigraphy,  copy etching, picture pearl, knitwear, light box, coloured b/w photograph, painting, relief, slide, patchwork, felt, mosaic, video (2005-2011)
