The thesis takes a peak into the origins of the MA exhibition ‘Terribly Pretty / Horribly Handsome’.

The show had three main inspirational ideas: ‘the glitter of ad-people’, ‘used textiles as storytellers’, and ‘everyday gender clichés’. The viewpoint is that while all three of these narratives silently aim at reality, they all tell stories that are not quite accurate. Adverts tell us what we should be, clothes tell us what we want to be, and gender clichés change slower than we think. Beyond these three themes, the works in the exhibition move across both sides of the thin red line between practical and art objects.
