Product design of
belt guard covers for flotation cells

The scope of my thesis was to design a product family of belt guard covers for belt driven flotation cells. The work was done in co-operation with Outotec, the world's leading company providing technologies and services for the metal and mineral processing industries.

Initially the work started with one cover design, which was implemented as a team with M.Sc. Jussi Peltokangas. After seeing positive results, the product family was expanded to cover all belt driven cell proportions totalling nine designed covers. The design drivers for the products were usability, manufacturability, safety and appealing appearance.
