FAQ

From the context of over a hundred years of mass-produced furniture, my thesis work explores the definition of originality, typicality, aesthetics, experience, and the sense that people often share from cultural accumulation.

'FAQ' is a wooden folding chair inspired by an anonymous, inexpensive metal folding chair. By transferring the material from tubular steel to wood, the chair obtains distinctive details, durability and familiarity, yet it is something people have never seen. All laminated components are produced using the same form, creating efficiency in the manufacturing process. This idea of elevating an ordinary object to extraordinary provides a more comfortable relationship between people and the industrial object.
