My thesis focuses on the design process of Foilbox, which is created for Metso Paper, Inc. With ’Design Thinking’ and ’Integrative Thinking’ methods, I was able to design a production process with reduced material usage and production costs. Using design methods to improve the efficiency of production process can greatly increase the market potential of heavy metal industry’s products. Design in this case is not focused on the visual form of the product, but on an extensive overview of the whole production process. It is a challenge for designers to communicate about their expertise on these issues so that the best design methods would become more common in heavy metal industry.
