Conducted in partnership with Polar Electro OY, this thesis aimed to innovatively develop product concepts that better target and support the cross-training technique associated with multi-sport heart rate monitoring products. This thesis project began with a desire to explore sports product design. From a personal perspective, the opportunity to conduct work in this field was a special opportunity to combine passions for both sports and design.
Cross-training and multi-sport athletes share a common need to blend sporting activities to perform at their best and achieve their goals. This thesis adopted a user centred product concepting framework to explore the lives of these athletes and develop innovative new product ideas in support of key behaviours. The visualised product concept outcome became a kind of idea bank for Polar Electro to support and inspire future product generations.
