At Home Abroad – International model for textile-design In future, increasing number of textile designers will engage in distance work. E-mail, Skype, mobile phone and aircraft are included in the repertoire of tools that will enable designers to widen their work environment to cover the whole world. A collection of textile designs produced for an Austrian design studio Affabre Design is an example of this international approach to textile design.
Having international contacts is essential for todays’ designers, and new communication technologies along with new design tools allow working with institutions and individuals in a wide-range of geographical locations. This is the case with this collection of woven fabric-designs that has been constructed partly through distance work for a Viennese design studio. The unique, hand made designs are amalgamation of several materials, combined to resemble the surface of woven textiles. The project partner Affabre Design is a studio focused on selling textile-designs world-wide.
