| Lien-Chiu Hsiao Furniture Design 1979, Taiwan R.O.C. Span – A Chair Starting from Shanghai Span is a chair motivated by my two-year living and working experience in Shanghai. I am fascinated by this city’s diverse cultures, a rich mixing of east and west. The design process mingles the considerations: this society’s phenomena, the influences from Finnish design and my personal preferences in furniture. The chair is defined as an upholstered armchair, based on the essences originating from the culture. I aim to express the city’s feminine character by using flowing curves, and to design in a more industrialized method different from the traditional furniture making. In addition, I have created another chair without the armrests which shares the same design language. The two types enrich customers’ choices in satisfying their needs.
