This project describes the design process of an Aerial Platform Cage and Steering System that was carried out partially in a co-operation with an aerial platform manufacturer, Bronto Skylift, located in Tampere, Finland. The design project includes the defined topic, the background research and as a result, three alternative product concepts.
The thesis project is aiming to adapt and apply strategic tools for an industrial company that operates in the business-to-business environment and does not have an established design language. When the product is the most important channel between the company, customers and end users, the most efficient way to improve the company identity is to improve the product. The project was focused toward creating added value, and to create a recognizable visual identity for the product. On a product level, the aim of the project is to create the design language and functional features of Bronto Skylift aerial platforms. On a more abstract level, this thesis highlights the possibilities of design as a strategic tool that can be utilized in product and company identity management when used and developed systematically.
