My thesis consists of a painting exhibition called ”WAS HERE” and a writing “ Maata pitkin – pieni tutkielma maalauksen esittävyydestä”. The exhibition was held at 2008 and the text follows themes that rose from the painting process.
My paintings deal with my living space during childhood and nowadays – the suburban area. When I noticed the paintings are actually not representing the visual aspects of these places, I started to ask: what do they represent then?
In my writing, I follow the question by describing the painting process and relate it to Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s thinking and Chinese landscape painting tradition. In broader context the work also deals with the question of how are we part of our environment?
