Based On Truth is a window to a subculture and back again, a dream of an endless summer and a 10-year-long chase after it. The series investigates the purpose and position of skate photography in between art and documentary, in the cross roads of staged and found scenes.
Based On Truth is a series of photographs dealing with issues of youth and the freedom and innocent irresponsibility that come with it. The young men in the photographs travel through an urban landscape where cities resemble each other and continents merge into one. Apart from a few exceptions, the photos in the series have been taken between 1998 and 2009, while Tuukka Kaila has been employed as photographer and editor at Numero and Kingpin magazines.
