building blocks – A Concept of Lightweight Facade System for Ruukki Constructions

building blocks is a concept of modular lightweight façade system done in co-operation with Ruukki Contructions. The thesis also looks into the knowledge management process starting from designing the facades to their assembly at the constructions site.

The fundamental question behind the project was: How to design cost-efficient “building blocks” that enable architects’ creative process? Future perspectives for façade elements are researched through concept design process not forgetting cost-efficient production. Design process that takes into account the needs of the stakeholder groups creates new solutions and market expansion to more visually and architecturally demanding sites. My thesis is a description of the concept design process including also theoretical part related to the topic.
