Over the sea - curtain textile collection on spun paper yarn’s terms
‘One day I was watching through the water surface the design of our nature. Small sand dunes on the sea bottom were drawing wave forms, the sculpture of foam-crested waves. I sensed the soft and beautiful structure beneath my feet. The fragile formation fractured under my steps, the completeness of figures broke down. In the morning the wind arrived again and waves were following each others. Endlessly, up and down, up and down, constructing new forms.’
Ulappa diploma work is an industrial woven curtain collection for Woodnotes, which is known worldwide for its spun paper yarn products. The design is made in terms of spun paper yarn. The wiry and unshrinkable material gives restrictions and challenges to the design and to the industrial weaving. Indeed, in Ainomaria Haataja’s work those characteristics give the collection its soul and spirit, enabling a surface that is wavy and playing with light.
The prototype of the collection was introduced at the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition in Milan 16th – 21st of April 2008.
