TEXTILE ART AND DESIGN
1974, FINLAND

RYIJYTIN
Statement
My goal is to overcome the limitations people see in textiles, to discover ways to make the design- and production-processes of textiles as easy and available to all as possible. The Finnish Rug, ryijy, is not only an object to be put in the museum or to gather dust on the wall, but a living symbol of Finland, an extreme-textile and an experience. With my thesis I wish to bring ryijy available to all, as a part of technolocigal development and the life of a modern man. The computer-programme RYIJYTIN is a co-operation-project, designed to assist with the designing and producing of rugs. The picture you want, the yarns you have, with Ryijytin you can design just the rug you want, ready to be woven. Co-operation partners: Marko Vähä-Erkkilä, programmer Pirjo Pajusalo, weaver
