Statement
My diploma work explores, through the means of art and science, the connections, valuations, interactive relations, and evolutionary paths between technology and culture. It consists of two parts: a collection of works and the development of the method. The collection “2030” is a future scenario narrated with artefacts of imaginary social technology. It comprises the partly functional prototypes of four possible future objects. In the background of the works, the design of the future scenario combines the method and practice of future studies, design and art.
Biography
In his studies, Roope Ritvos has explored the middle ground between media art, design and futures research on the one hand, and creativity management on the other. He feels that the key element in art is the context, the basis for action. The socio-political nature of his final thesis project has previously been evident in such projects as sound design for political theatre, and environmental issues in sound installations recorded and designed on an ocean sailing trip.
