KILPI FUNCTIONAL DESIGN FROM INSIDE TO OUTSIDE
Statement
Kilpi – Functional Design from Inside to Outside is a functional clothing concept that arose from the need to create better, more functional, and comfortable clothes for everyday urban life without compromising good looks. The first line was the result of teamwork at UIAH in 2004–2005. Multifunctionality is my approach to fashion and clothing. My diploma work is the Kilpi line for autumn/winter 2007/08. The idea was to use commercial new-generation functional materials in everyday wear. The focus was on smart materials, such as the phase change material (PCM) Comfortemp©. Some of the products were tested. Testing proved that casual wear can be made more comfortable through sensible, functional material choices and layered clothing. Discomfort caused by temperature changes can be decreased with PCM technology.
