EXPECTATIONS
Statement
For Ria Piritta Mette, the motif of the work is the main starting point for work. Technique, on the other hand, is a means of expressing the issue. She hopes that her work will inspire thoughts and discussion on the viewer’s own relationship with art. What does the viewer expect from art? What is art? Her final thesis work EXPECTATIONS consists of two parts. In the first part, she recorded video interviews with visitors to Helsinki’s Kiasma, Museum of Contemporary Art, and Stockholm’s Moderna Museet, asking them what expectations they had of art. In the second part, a large wooden sculpture winds between the surfaces, challenging the boundaries of the exhibition space. Black, empty frames of the sculpture are hung along the walls in the exhibition rooms. This final thesis work has been displayed at Galleria Konstfack in Stockholm and Galleria MAA-TILA in Helsinki.
