THREE PERSPECTIVES ON GAME CHARACTER DESIGN
Computer, video and mobile games have during a couple of decades grown into an important new artistic medium and a field of entertainment industry. Game character is the star of a game. Like movies are sold with movie stars, game characters can be attractions of the video games. Game character is the key to the alternate reality of the game: the alter ego of the player in the game world, a character that the player controls and whom the player, to some extent, turns into.
Purpose of the final thesis is to explore the game characters and process of designing characters. Artistic part of the final thesis consists of mobile games Johnny Crash (Digital Chocolate Ltd, 2004), Johnny Crash Does Texas (Digital Chocolate Ltd, 2005) and mobile multiplayer game Pocket Pal (Ironstar Helsinki, 2006-2007).
