JÄNNÄRI
Statement
Jännäri is a clothing line for women. It is traditional but modern,
girlish but sexy, ordinary but luxurious. Inspired by doll clothes and
mildew growth, the line plays with proportions and materials. The
silhouettes have been borrowed from old doll’s clothes by scaling them
big enough for the human body. Some parts of the clothes seem too big,
others too small. Fine silks are counterbalanced by simple cotton and
wool. All materials are high-quality natural fibres. The line varies
from monochrome clothes to painted and printed silks inspired by the
incredibly colourful contents of a waste bucket. The whole creates an
atmosphere that is somewhat scary and odd, yet enticing and beautiful.
Biography
Linda Jännäri began her studies in fashion design in autumn 2000.
During her studies, she spent six months in Germany as a trainee at
Esprit. She also helped design and produce the 30th anniversary show of
Marja Kurki. She is a member of a shop collective of young designers
called Hundpark. As a designer, she is interested in “mismatched”
combinations and creating different atmospheres. In clothes, as in
other things, she values insightful simplicity, low-key fun and
practicality.
