Masters of Arts 2006 Seminars

MoA 2006 is the platform for five international seminars. We bring thirty illustrious speakers from ten countries to Arabianranta. The speakers represent ground-breaking internationality, native virtuosity, deep thinking, grand visions and brilliant know-how.

The seminar series challenges each performer and listener!

Seminar I, May 11th, Design Radicals

(In English)

The radical individuals of the seminar evoke great feelings. One can love them, hate them and admire them. Their personalities are reflected uniquely in the products and spaces they design. Both the creators and the presented projects sparkle with colors and boldness and they strike an impression with innocence and humorousness. This seminar is full of vitality.

Seminar II, May 12th, Culture of in-between spaces

(In English)

Indefinable, open and multiform spaces and situations spawn various cultural ideas, phenomena and innovations - in other words, urban culture: the identity of a city. The seminar asks, what is the nature of this open and indefinable space, how can one secure the existence and advancement of phenomena born naturally in in-between spaces, and how can one plan them. Whom do these spaces attract - and whom should they attract? The seminar opens up discussion about functional environments and functioning hybrids, their meanings and prospects.

Seminar III, May 13th, Creative life

(In Finnish)

Creative life, philosophy of life and creative passion meet at the seminar. This meeting sparks a flame that guides the listener's thinking away from beaten paths of thought. The interactive programme calibrates and charges the humane desire to ask.

Seminar IV, May 22nd, Fountain of Creativity

(In Finnish)

The University of Art and Design Helsinki has operated in Arabianranta for twenty years now. In that period the University's role as an influence on society and the flagship for the district of Arabianranta has strengthened considerably. The seminar tackles the following question from many angles: What role and significance does the University of Art and Design Helsinki have in the future of Finnish culture?

Seminar V, May 23rd, Mood and Atmosphere in Architecture

(In English)

The seminar of architecture looks far beyond functionality and program. The power of architecture lies in its ability to create new moods and experiences - atmospheres that readily react to quickly changing cities - moments that correspond to our experiences of the world in this millennium.
