Common Ground – Neighborhood and Integration in Arabianranta
Interact

The living conditions of mentally disabled people have changed in the last decades from an isolated life in institutions to a more and more integrated life in our communities. But the integration is often only physical. Involving a user research this design concept is aiming for neighborhood integration and exchange. The concept is based on the idea of zoning. The common ground is the backyard of the Käpytikka house and its neighborhood buildings in Arabianranta. Dividing the yard into emotional zones offers the residents diversity without getting chaotic all over. The main aim is to bring people out of their homes, to be present in the neighborhood and thus get to know each other casually.
