Biography

Taneli Mustonen got a box seat to the world of cinema already as a child, when his parents took upon themselves to keep alive the supply of movies in Outokumpu by continuing to operate the cinema Kino Marita as a family business when it would otherwise have been closed down. The cinema reportoire broadened with new and different types of films in the 1990s when the family opened another theatre in Joensuu, specialising in movies imported by Cinema Mondo. As a schoolboy, Taneli worked as projectionist in the cinemas. He still likes to work as a projectionist whenever he can to keep up the vanishing skill of projecting 35mm film.
Inspired by his own films, amateur theatricals and filmmaking, Taneli sought admission to study film directing in 1998. He has directed three short films, as well as advertisements and music videos. In 2005 he worked as direction assistant at the filmmaking school in the University.
Apart from directing, Taneli Mustonen has also written scripts. In 1998 he received the filmmaking school's award for the best short film script.
